Second graders had a great visit to Sully Historic Site last week!  As a celebration of our Advanced Academic unit, Your Story My Story, students visited a nineteenth century home and learned that some things are similar to our lives today and many things are very different.  After a tour of the home, we had an in-depth look at a kitchen, school room or textile workroom.  In the kitchen, we learned how to bake biscuits over an open fire.  In the school room, we learned how to write on slate boards and to seal letters with melted wax.  Finally, in the textile room, we cleaned wool by pulling it through long bristles, spun the wool into thread and learned how to weave the thread into fabric.  All of us decided that life long ago could be hard work!
